Description

The weeping eastern white pine is a needle-bearing evergreen tree in the pine family (Pinaceae) that is native to North America. This variety has long, twisting, drooping branches and an irregular shape compared to the species. The branches spread horizontally, then they hang down.

It grows best in sun or partial shade and in fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Its mature form depends on the training and pruning done in previous years. It should be trained at a young age to develop a central leader; otherwise it may become more of a sprawling shrub than a tree. Its long weeping branches can be allowed to trail along the ground to form a creeping ground cover. Its height can be 2-5 meters, depending on the structure, and its width 3-6 meters.

Plant this pine as a specimen in a lawn, meadow or natural area. It is also an excellent protection for screening or privacy. Alternatively, you can use it as an accent in a native garden or next to a patio or walkway.

Insects, diseases and other plant problems: This tree is susceptible to wind damage. It can be susceptible to adelgid (a form of aphid), bark beetles, sawfly, pine needle scale, pine spittlebug, spruce mites, Zimmerman pine beetles, and pine beetles.
