The skin is also reddish and peels off pleasantly.

Pinus sylvestris Chantry Blue planting instructions

Potted ornamental Blue Scot's Pine trees can be planted at any time of the year. Prepare the site by removing all weeds and grass within one meter of your desired planting hole, then dig a hole deep and about 2x the width of your root mass. We recommend digging a square hole because it encourages the roots to grow straight, not inside the hole. To help your tree grow more efficiently, we recommend rooting (sprinkle in the hole for potted trees), especially if your soil is poor. Carefully loosen the roots and place in the planting hole.

If your soil is poor, mix 50% native soil with 50% high quality compost, fill the hole and gently firm. Do not pour soil around the collar of the tree as this can cause problems. We recommend planting young trees with a series of stakes and ties. If you want to know how to use a wooden stake and a tie, watch our instructional video .

Aftercare of Scot's Pine Chantry Blue

If you are planting conifers in dry weather, water well and regularly for the first few months. The same applies to spring and summer plantings. Be sure to keep an eye on the young tree and increase watering if there are long periods of hot or dry weather. If you plant in the fall, you may only need to water the tree a little. We also have a selection of watering kits to suit different planting systems.

Once an area is planted, it is important to keep the area free of competing weeds and grasses for the first few growing seasons. Using a glyphosate-based herbicide or installing mulch mats and bark chips will help with this. Just don't cut the grass around the area as this will only encourage it to grow more vigorously. If you know that your area is prone to rabbits, we recommend using a rabbit guard.
