An interesting variety with blue needles, which allows for free shaping of the figure and reaches quite large sizes. It has no high demands and is a very attractive specimen of softwood with attractive needles and cones.

It is a slow growing tree. After 10 years, it reaches a maximum height of 3 meters and a width of about 1.5 meters, and it has a very loose, irregular shape. Older specimens can grow up to 6 - 8 m high, more branches appear on the shoots, thanks to which the wide conical crown thickens.

It has very decorative pins. Long, stiff, but not prickly, collected in five bundles and carelessly twisted, giving the branches volume. In addition, as the name of the variety suggests, originally colored - the upper surface is greenish-blue, the lower surface is covered with white stripes.

In addition, young plants produce cones that decorate the tree for a long time and are grouped into several single shoots. Initially closed, light green, they turn brown over time.

The variety was discovered in the gardens of the Von Gimborn Arboretum in the city of Doorn and introduced to the market in 1975 on the Dutch garden market.

Growing conditions:

Likes the sun and looks good in its rays.

Soil - very tolerant of soil conditions, no special requirements, grows comfortably in average soil with moderate moisture.

Completely frost-resistant.

Due to its slow growth and ease of establishment, the plant can be found successfully in smaller gardens. Suitable for shaping an unusual "bonsai" tree. Together with other conifers, you create unique color compositions.
