The variety is completely frost-resistant.

Its base species, Nevada pine, is a very hardy and tolerant northernmost silk pine species in the western part of the USA, its closest relative is Pinus armandii from China. It is a grey-green deciduous tree. The cultivar 'Glauca' is a very beautiful blue-leaved version.

A loose and delicate evergreen tree, well named because the unique branches are very flexible, with long, blue needles; very adaptable and durable, good color accent tree, needle color is the most reliable bluish of the species

Decorative features

Blue Limber Pine is prized in landscapes primarily for its decorative globe-shaped form. It has attractive blue-green evergreen leaves. The needles are very decorative and stay blue-green throughout the winter. The fluffy gray bark brings an interesting dimension to the landscape.

Characteristics of the landscape

Blue Limber Pine is a dense evergreen tree with a strong midline and a more or less round shape. Its average structure blends into the landscape, but can be balanced with one or two finer or coarser trees or shrubs to create an effective composition.

This tree requires relatively little maintenance. When pruning is necessary, it is recommended to cut back only the current season's new growth, except to remove all dieback. It has no significant negative properties.

Planting and growing

The Blue Limber Pine grows to about 12 meters tall when mature and has a spread of 9 meters. It grows slowly and under ideal conditions can be expected to live to be over 100 years old , so think of this as an heirloom tree for generations to come!

This tree thrives best in full sun to partial shade. It prefers dry to average moisture levels in very well-drained soil and often dies in standing water. It is considered drought tolerant. It is not specific to soil type or pH.
