Abies concolor 'Archer's Dwarf' - Gray Spruce

Abies concolor 'Archer's Dwarf' is a compact and slow-growing habit, growing at around 6-8cm per year, making it a perfect choice for smaller gardens.

Grow in full sun for best color, although it tolerates light shade. Suitable for most soil types, but should be well drained. Drought tolerant once established.

Planting and growing

Archer's Dwarf White Fir grows about 1.5-2 meters tall. It tends to fill directly into the ground, so it doesn't necessarily require plants in front, and it's suitable for planting under power lines. It grows slowly and under ideal conditions can be expected to live 80 years or more.

This shrub thrives best in full sun to partial shade. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions and should not be allowed to dry out. It is not specific to soil type or pH. It tolerates some urban pollution and will benefit if planted in a relatively sheltered location. Consider spreading a thick layer of mulch around the root zone in winter to protect it in exposed locations or colder microclimates. This is a selection of native North American species.
