Pseudotsuga menziesii 'Glauca'
It is found in the Rocky Mountains from Montana and Idaho to Arizona and New Mexico. It grows in the mountains in areas with a dry, continental climate. In its homeland, it grows to a height of 40-50 meters, while in Poland it grows to 20-25 meters. The crown is narrow, and the branches are more vertically upwards. It is a fast growing tree. The bark of young trees is smooth, gray, and has numerous convex resin vesicles. Evergreen needles with a blue coating, 2-3 cm long, brush-like, with a mild turpentine scent. The color of the needles varies - from blue-green to silver. Douglas fir is a monoecious plant. The yellow male flowers, collected in small cylindrical racemes, grow singly in the axils of the needles below the branches. Female flowers in small cones that grow at the ends of side shoots. The cones are green at first, then brown, 5-8 centimeters long. They ripen at the end of summer, and the seeds fall off the tree. Seeds with wings attached to the top. It is resistant to drought and low temperatures.
Use : It grows well in urban conditions and is resistant to smoke and dust. It can be found in parks, but is no longer planted in forests. Recommended throughout the country. It is a valuable ornamental tree for parks and other trees. Suitable for planting individually and in groups, also with other conifers. With sufficient lighting, it maintains the perfect branching of the crowns for a long time, up to 100 years. It is also an irreplaceable conifer species for landscape plantings in holiday and health centers. Douglas fir tolerates planting very well thanks to its abundant root system. It is relatively resistant to fungal diseases and pests
