Planting instructions for conifers and conifers

The growth site requirements of different conifer species vary somewhat. However, the root system of conifers cannot withstand excessive moisture and stagnant water, nor can groundwater at high altitudes. In general, conifers prefer an acidic growing medium with a pH of 5.0-5.5. The growing medium is not limed. The exception is yew trees, which require liming.

Container seedlings can be planted throughout the growing season, from the time the frost melts until the ground freezes. Generally, conifers are planted from mid-May to mid-September. The seedlings are watered well before planting. The growing container is removed and the seedlings are planted without breaking the root ball 2-3 cm deeper than the previous growth depth. The soil is carefully compacted around the root ball and the growing medium is watered well. Small-sized conifers (less than 1 m) are planted every 50-70 cm, medium-sized (1-2 m) every 70-100 cm and large-sized (3-4 m) every 120-160 cm. Conifers that grow into large trees need plenty of space around them, e.g. larch.

Most evergreen plants do better if they are lightly shaded from the spring sun (March-April) with, for example, burlap or gauze. In the initial phase, daily spraying of the shoots also promotes growth. There is little need for cutting conifers, with the exception of spruce fences. In spring and winter, possible race/double tops are removed.

Thujas and conifers require a growing medium suitable for conifers, e.g. coniferous and rhododendron sold in sacks or soil from a reliable loose soil supplier that is suitable for conifers.

The conductivity of the soil should be between 20-40 mS/m and Ph between 5-7. This information can be found on the sacks of mulch products sold in sacks. The supplier of loose soil must be requested to mention the conductivity and ph value of the soil on the invoice. Soil with used sewage sludge must not be used for pine cones.

Thujas thrive in fresh and permeable soil, so make sure the planting site needs drainage (e.g. clay soil).

Plant the sedges and conifers you bought in summer and/or in warm weather immediately. Water both the cones and the planting hole well, it is good to soak the lump seedlings in a container or planting hole 1-2 hours before planting and covering the hole. After planting, you can use scissors or a knife to open the net around the roots of the lump seedlings and open the knots around the trunk and the upper part of the net and turn the soil inside, so that it does not suffocate the trunk of the seedling. If you can remove the mesh without breaking up the root ball, you can remove it completely. Plant the saplings/cones in such a way that the root ball is covered, but the "patty" root neck at the base of the seedling remains visible. The trunk of conifers must not be covered with soil. Reserve a sufficiently deep place for the seedling to grow.

The ideal renovated planting hole is about 50 cm (height x depth).

Take care of abundant and regular watering of the seedlings during the planting year, so that they do not dry out and get a good start for rooting. Watering depending on the season, at least once or twice a week, at least 20 liters /seedling, more for large seedlings. Check the adequacy of irrigation by digging small test pits and examine the soil moisture from the root depth.

Especially in the summer heat and windy weather, taking care of daily watering is extremely important.

Fertilize in spring and mid-summer with conifer-rhodo fertilizer , in August-September with autumn fertilizer. Fertilization is not recommended in the first year, when the seedlings have been planted in new soil.

In a sunny growing area, young firs and cone-shaped white spruces require shading in spring and winter. Remove the shading net when the frost has melted.

Growth start guarantee

Growth start guarantee for seedlings bought in spring until June 30. Seedlings purchased after 1.7 have a 14-day warranty from the date of purchase. Seedlings purchased after 1.10 are not guaranteed. The warranty does not apply to damage caused to the seedlings by winter, pests, an unfavorable growing place or other external factors. Keep the trout's receipt and name tag for possible return.
